I was born in Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from Richard King High School. I attended Del Mar College (DMC) and earned an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts there. I attended Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC), where I earned a BA in English, an MA in English (with a concentration in rhetoric & composition), and worked on an MS in Curriculum & Instruction in the Education Department. I worked for five years at the Alternative High School Center (AHSC) in Corpus Christi, focusing on reading comprehension and writing. After the five years with AHSC, I taught freshmen composition at TAMU-CC for three years. I earned my PhD in Rhetoric & Composition at UTEP in 2013.
